Varanasi, Mar 13 (UNI) With the arrest of a Naxalite and recovery of large cache of explosives, the police in the neighbouring Chandauli district today claimed to have busted a major naxal plot to disrupt coming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Station Officer of Chakia police station of Naxal-affected Chandauli district Puranmasi Kannaujiya told UNI that on a tip off, a naxalite Ghanshyam Verma was arrested late last night from the Murarpur Tiraha area.

A sizeable quantity of explosives including five detonators, five liquid gelatin pipes, fuse wires and other explosives were seized from the arrested naxal, he added.

Early interrogation has revealed that the seized explosive were meant to wreak havoc in the naxal-hit Chandauli, Sonebhadra and Mirzapur districts during the coming assembly polls and further grilling of the arrested is likely to lead to more vital disclosures.

The arrested Ghashyam Verma is a naxal hailing from Hetimpur village also under Chakia police station and has close links with many naxal outfits.

The Chakia area besides itself being naxal affected region is edged by the Naugarh police station area which has been the hotbed of naxalite extremism in the recent years, including the 2004 landmine blast in Hinauta which killed over 14 UP police and PAC personnel.
