German citizen held in Iran for over year freed
BERLIN, Mar 12 (Reuters) A German man held in Iran for over a year for illegal entry into the country has been released, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said today.
''He was released from prison a few minutes ago,'' Steinmeier told reporters in Berlin, referring to German citizen Donald Klein who was detained in late 2005 near Abu Musa, an island in the Gulf claimed by both Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
''He is on the safe premises of the German Embassy. I just spoke with him and with his wife,'' Steinmeier added.
