Journalists agitate against scribes' arrest
Udupi, Mar 12 (UNI) Members of the Udupi District Working Journalists Union today staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office against the arrest of Karavali group of publications chief B V Seetharam and his wife on March three in Mangalore.
Union President Dinesh Kini, addressing the members, alleged that the arrests were ''politically motivated''. The recent incidents of attacks on media houses were nothing, but efforts to suppress the freedom of Press.
Urging the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court to immediately intervene in the issue and render justice, he demanded that the State Government hold a detailed inquiry into all cases of attacks on media persons and media offices.
Later, the agitators submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, to be forwarded to the Chief Minister.
