Uma criticises George Fernandes's statement

Mandsaur, MP, Mar 11 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti President Uma Bharti today criticised NDA Convenor and former Defence Minister George Fernandes for his statement claiming that the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had directed him to not open the Bofors file.

She told reporters here that Mr Fernandes' statement could not be described as a ''morally correct'' statement.

''If Mr Vajpayee had asked him not to open the file, he should have resigned,'' Ms Bharti, who was also a minister in the NDA government, said.

The BJS leader felt that Mr Fernandes' statement was a ''result of frustration because the NDA did not come to his rescue when he was in danger recently.'' On the occasion, Ms Bharti put forward two women before reporters alleging that they were stripped by policemen in police station. The women had given an affidavit to the administration in this regard.
