Student shot at university music event
LONDON, Mar 11 (Reuters) Police arrested a 22-year-old man on Sunday after a student was shot at a music event at Loughborough University, Leicester police said on Sunday.
The 21-year-old student, who had been helping with security at the event, was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds but his condition was not believed to be life-threatening.
The shooting occurred at around 2.45 a m after a canister of CS gas was discharged at the event, which was open to the public and held at the university student union.
The student was shot in the abdomen, the BBC reported, adding that six others were also injured in a scuffle after the CS gas was sprayed.
The arrested man was not from the university and comes from Nottinghamshire.
Police said they had spoken to a number of witnesses but many others had left before police could question them.
''It is important that we ascertain the circumstances leading up to the incident,'' said Detective Chief Inspector Phil Taylor, in charge of the investigation.
''If you were at the music event and witnessed the shooting incident or the gas canister discharge, or you have any information about who is involved, then I'd urge you to get in contact with us.'' REUTERS MS KN2015
