Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan today said the movement of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Tamil Nadu had been on the increase and it was a matter of grave concern.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Elangovan wanted the Tamil Nadu Government to take suitable action immediately for which the Centre will extend its fullest support.

He also expressed his concern over the increased attacks on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy in the recent days.

He said the Centre will hold dialogue with the Island nation Government shortly to ensure protection of the fishermen.

To a question, he said the Congress was going to field its candidate in the ensuing by-election to the Madurai Central Assembly constituency as this seat was originally alloted to the Congress in the May 2006 elections to the State Assembly.

He hoped the the alliance parties in the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance, including the ruling DMK, will extend their whole hearted support to the Congress candidate.
