Mumbai, Mar 11: The don-turned-politician Arun Gawli is likely to appear before the court tomorrow to hear on cancellation of his bail plea filed by Economic Offences Wing (EOW) department of the city police for his alleged involvement in a misappropriation case.

Earlier, Additional Sessions Judge P D Vishwasrao had directed Gawli to appear before the court on March 12 for hearing on the petition.

The EOW arrested Gawli a few months ago for allegedly misappropriating funds of the employees union affiliated to his party, the Akhil Bharatiya Sena. Gawli had allegedly deposited a sum of Rs 85 lakh, that belonged to the union and was supposed to be distributed among the members, in the account of a chartiable Trust run by him.

Following his arrest, Gawli was produced before a Metropolitan magistrate, but was released on bail immediately. The court then, however, had directed him to ensure that the amount was disbursed among the members.

The prosecution, while arguing against the bail, had contended that Gawli could not be granted immediate bail as the investigation agency should be provided adequate time to investigate the matter.
