Avalanche kills 10 Pakistani soldiers on border
KABUL, Mar 11 (Reuters) Ten Pakistani soldiers were feared killed in an avalanche in a remote area on the border with eastern Afghanistan, NATO said today.
NATO spokesman Col Tom Collins said the Pakistani government had sought permission from the Afghan government and NATO-led forces to set up a base camp inside Afghanistan to recover the bodies. The avalanche struck the soldiers on March 1.
After joining th US-led war on terrorism following the September.
11 attacks, Pakistan deployed tens of thousands of troops along its long, porous border with Afghanistan to track down al Qaeda militants and their allies and stem their cross-border activities.
