Van overturnes killing five fishermen in Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) At least five people were killed on the spot and thirtysix others injured when a Kolkata bound Matador van overturned at Namkhana in South 24 Parganas district this morning.

Official sources here said the over loaded four-wheeler carrying fishermen from nearby areas to Kolkata involved in the accident while its driver was trying to overtake another vehicle and subsequenly overturned on the highway killing five men on the spot.

Soon after the accident, the local people took a rescue operation taking all the injured to a nearby hospital where condition of at least six men was stated to be critical.

Efforts were on to bring the seriously injured to Kolkata for better treatment.
