Surgery for macaque to restore vision
Coimbatore, Mar 10 (UNI) A lion-tailed macaque with a blurred vision in the Pudhuthottam forest area here, will be 'hospitalised', in the next week, with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department deciding to perform a surgery to remove a tumour from its right eye.
Forest Veterinary Officer N S Manoharan told UNI that the male monkey was spotted as having very poor vision with a tumour growing in its right eye. It would be tranquillized and the tumour would be removed, he added.
The macaque, listed among the endangered species, would be shifted to a special enclosure till it completely recovered.
Meanwhile, Pallavan (35), a tamed elephant (Kumki), is recovering from a sprained forelimb, Dr Manoharan added.
