SC directs MCD to comply with its orders dated Feb 12

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the MCD to continue with its sealing drive of illegal constructions except for those covered by the new Delhi Master Plan 2021 (MPD).

A bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and Lokeshwar Singh Panta issued the directions today when amicus curiae senior counsel Ranjit Kumar informed the court that the MCD had indefinitely stopped the sealing.

The Supreme Court appointed Monitoring Committee in its 31st report submitted yesterday informed the Court that its order was being misinterpreted by the civic body and that it had stopped all sealing drives in Delhi, including in premises not protected by the Master Plan.

The court clarified that no stay was maintained against the sealing of commercial premises not protected by the new Master Plan and the MCD must comply in letter and spirit with its order dated February 12, 2007. With today's directions, the sealing drive in Delhi will resume and all such premises which are not protected or covered by the new MPD 2021, shall face sealing.

It may be noted here that the Supreme Court had stayed the sealing of commercial premises operating from residential areas and protected by the new Master Plan, until futher orders.
