Railway installs first anti-collision device

Guwahati, Mar 9 (UNI) The Indian Railways today started using a highly sophisticated Anti-Collision Device(ACD) which has been installed between Alipurduar and Lumding of the North East Frontier Railway.

The Anti-Collision Device (ACD), a satellite-based technology, developed by the Konkan Railway Corporation, would provide additional safety shield at both manned and unmanned level crossings through an audio-visual indication system to road users.

North East Frontier Railway CPRO Mr Trikalagya Rabha said, ''The NF Railway authorities completed the installation at a cost of Rs 250 crores from today onward and it was being tested by a Lucknow based company Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO).'' The RDSO was the sole R&D organisation of Indian Railways and functioning as the technical advisor and consultant to the Indian Railway Board, Regional railways and rolling stock works.

The busy Alipurduar-Lumding section was a single track system where the need of the indigenously developed anti-collision device was maximum.

The devise was developed by the Koknkan Railways. Inventor B Rajaram, while working as Managing Director of Konkan Railway Corporation, invented this Anti-Collission Device.
