Boom in IT sector to take different shape: Expert

Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) The boom in the Information Technology would continue but take a different shape, said Tata Consultancy Services Consultancy Advisor C R Muthukrishnan.

Addressing an interactive session at a national symposium for IT students here, he said the boom in IT sector would continue in a different shape due to onset of new technology.

The onset of many more new technologies would influence the application getting involved, he said answering a question on the future of IT after four years.

On whether the rush for IT profession was due to sectoral interest or high salary, Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) President Lakshmi Narayanan said ''compensation package and lots of growth opportunities in this industry are the two main attractions.'' In the company's perpective, there was a huge demand for employees who had the ability to learn by themselves, he said adding ''the industry expects basic capability of learning from the students and the development happens once they join the company.'' The Rajalakshmi Engineering College, jointly with CSI, organised the symposium to enlighten the first year IT students on the career path laid before them -- ''Preparing IT professionals for 2010.'' Ms Thangam Magenathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Engineerig College, inaugurated the symposium, which comprised presentations of papers, debate, quiz, panel discussion, case studies and series of guest lectures.
