Suicide bid against Cauvery verdict

Mysore, Mar 8 (UNI) A Yuva Sena activist- attempted self immolation in protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal on sharing of the river water here today.

Police said Yuva Sena outfits, led by its Vice-President Sunil Kumar, took out a bike rally in the city. When the motorcyclists neared the Deputy Commissioner's office, Sunil Kumar doused himself with kerosene and attempted to set himself ablaze. Police intervened immediately and arrested him.

Pro-Kannada organisations also took out processions from different parts of the city against the verdict.

Meanwhile, in Mandya, farmers and various organisations took out a procession and resorted to a road blockade for some time in protest against MPs from the lower riparian state of Tamil Nadu raising their voice against Karnataka's demand in the Lok Sabha.

The relay hunger strike continued under the leadership of Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi President G Made Gowda at Silver Jubilee park in Mandya. Hunger strikes also continued at Pandavapura, Srirangapatna and other places in the district.

Protests were also held at Chamarajanagar district.
