WB: Shooter Sheuli Sadhukhan's coach arrested

Kolkata, Mar 8: A former coach of national shooter Sheuli Sadhukhan, who was shot at by some assailants at Srerampore in neighbouring Howrah district yesterday, was today arrested on charges of involvement in the incident.

Police said Swapan Sanyal was taken into custody from his house, also at Srerampore, early this morning on charges of attempt to murder on the basis of an FIR lodged by Sheuli's father.

They further said that the former coach was suspected to be involved in the shooting incident as differnces arose between him and Sheuli over the purchase of a new rifle for the national champion shooter and also because of professional rivalry.

Sanyal and three other people, who had been detained since yesterday, would be produced in Howrah court later today.

Sanyal, however, alleged that he was being dragged into the murder case by some 'vested interests' in order to 'harass' him.

A gang of three assilants, riding on a motorbike, opend fire on 27-year-old Sheuli last morning near her house at Srerampore injuring her severely as she was on her way to office. A police patrol soon rushed her to a nearby hospital before taking her to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.

The incident has sent shockwaves among the sportsloving people of the city who also demanded immediate arrest and stern punishment to the assilants.
