Protesting BJP MLA suspended for the day

Gandhinagar, Mar 8: BJP MLA Ramilaben Desai was suspended for the day by the Speaker of Gujarat Assembly Mangaldas Patel for obstructing proceedings of the House for more than 30 minutes.

Ramilaben, who was suspended from the party earlier, was protesting against non-inclusion of her name and that of the Congress MLA Dr Rashida Patel in the official invitation for the International Women's Day celebrations being held today.

After the recess when the House assembled, Leader of Opposition Arjun Modhwadia demanded an inquiry into the whole episode be held since only two women one of them from the minority community, were targeted.

Earlier, Ramilaben was seen waiving the invitation in the House and saying ''I want justice.'' She later rushed to the well of the House. On reaching the well, she was evicted by the women marshalls. After the eviction, the Speaker announced her suspension from the house for the day.

This is the second instance of expulsion during this session, the first being when the four Congress MLAs were suspended on the very first day of the Budget session.

The Congress MLA, after the recess, charged that her name was omitted from the invitation as she belonged to the minority community.
