PM's intervention sought on apathy to Arunachal
Itanagar, Mar 8 (UNI) BJP's MP Kiren Rijiju has sought intervention of Prime Minister Monmohan Singh into the alleged discrimination against Arunachal Pradesh under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Assurance Programme (NREGA).
In a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was made available to the media, Rijiju said that two districts- Kurung Kumey and East Kameng- of the state were excluded from the benefits of the centrally-sponsored scheme.
"I would like to ask you that if the two districts which are at the bottom of most backward are not benefitted then what is the meaning of such programme", Rijiju wondered.
"This raises a serious question of whether New Delhi really considers Arunachal as an integral part of India or not. Why is the Centre systematically ignoring the state despite my repeated appeal to you and my continuous efforts in Lok Sabha to highlight the miseries of the land-locked state", the letter pointed out.
