Final shape to Cong manifesto for MCD polls likely by Monday

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Congress is likely to give final shape by Monday to its manifesto for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls, scheduled to be held on April 5, by Monday.

The first meeting of the 21-member Congress manifesto committee, held at the office of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee this evening under the chairmanship of former Union Minister and MP Jagdish Tytler, saw members discussing various issues to be included in it.

Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Mr Tytler said the manifesto committee discussed inclusion of various possible issues including reduction of tax burden on people, providing for the complete development of Delhi and making available basic health facilities for the common man.

Mr Tytler said a list of possible issues to be included in the party's manifesto was circulated among the members of the committee, who were asked to submit on Monday their suggestions on issues to be included in it. He said the manifesto was expected to be given final shape by Monday evening.

Among the members of the committee are Union Minister Kapil Sibbal, Congress MPs Sajjan Kumar and J P Aggrawal, Ministers of the Delhi Cabinet A K Walia, Yoganand Shastri and Haroon Yousuf, MLAs Subhash Chopra, Jai Kishen, Parvez Hashmi, S C Vats, Ramakant Goswami, Mukesh Sharma and Ms Anjali Rai, Leader of the MCD House Jitender Kochar, Municipal Councillor Sanjay Puri and others.

Speaking to reporters, Leader of the MCD House Jitender Kochar said prominent among the issues discussed at the meeting were providing complete exemption to rural villages for payment of property tax, augmenting parking facilities in Delhi to solve the acute parking problem and rehabilitating residents of JJ clusters in places adjacent to their place of residence.

Also under disuccion is a proposal to amend the present DMC act, he said.
