UPA should focus on rural infrastructure: RJD
New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) RJD member Ram Deo Bhandari today asked the UPA government to place more emphasis on building rural infrastructure in the country.
Participating in the Rajya Sabha a discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, he said a bulk of Indians still live in villages.
But a lot of farmers are moving away from agriculture and shifting to cities for job opportunities. This is primarily due to poor incentives being given for farming, said Mr Bhandari.
He said the share of agriculture in the country's GDP has declined to just 18 per cent.
