Hyderabad, Mar 7 (UNI) A conference of Andhra Pradesh Shia Political Leaders today announed that a 'Shia Muslim Reservation Sangharsh Samithi' would be set up to press the demand for reservation in education, government jobs and in politics.

Addressing a press conference here, the Conference Vice President Mir Sabir Ali said the ''samithi'' would launch a struggle to press their demand as the shia population in the state had crossed 30 lakh.

Alleging that no political party had elected any person belonging to Shia community in the state Legislative Council elections scheduled to be held on March 17, he said, ''It is regrettable that there has been hardly any representatin of the community in the state Assembly since inception.'' Observing that most of the Shias in the state were economically and politically backward, Mr Sabir demanded that the state government must nominate one Shia representative as the Legislative Council member from the Governor's nomination.
