Agartala, Mar 7: North East MPs Forum (BEMP) has submitted two memorandums to Prime Minister Mahmohan Singh urging him to allocate necessary funds for the Baramura Gas Thermal project.

The Forum also demanded his intervention in regard to the extension of railway line upto Sabroom in Tripura.

BEMP members said all the NE states, particularly Tripura, was facing acute shortage of power and in bid to overcome the problem, the Centre had sent proposal for setting up of a 21 mw gas-based thermal power project at Baramura, in Tripura's West district earlier.

In the memorandum, the MPs have urged the Prime Minister for his intervention so that a gas-based power project could be set up at Baramura.

The MPs also demanded to the Prime Minister that the railway line from Agartala to Sabroom in Tripura be extended as a national project. Chittagong port in Bangladesh is only 75 kms from Sabroom.

Once railway line was extended, then entire the NE region would benefitted as well as Tripura could be another 'Gate Way' of North East, they stated.

The forum members said if railway lines upto Sabroom was extended, then it would be easy for transportation of goods from Chittagong port into this state as well for entire NE region, which would also save time and expenditure for transporation of necessary goods.
