NE MPs submit memoranda to PM
Agartala, Mar 7 (UNI) The North East MPs Forum (BEMP) has submitted memoranda to Prime Minister Mahmohan Singh, urging him to allocate necessary funds for the Baramura Gas Thermal Project.
The Forum also demanded the PM's intervention with regard to the extension of railway line upto Sabroom in Tripura.
BEMP members said all the NE states, particularly Tripura, was facing acute power-shortage and in bid to overcome the problem, the Centre had sent proposal for setting up of a 21 mw gas-based thermal power project at Baramura, in Tripura's West district earlier.
In the memoranda, the MPs have urged the Prime Minister for his intervention so that a gas-based power project could come up at Baramura.
The MPs also demanded the extension of the railway line from Agartala to Sabroom in Tripura as a national project. Chittagong port in Bangladesh is only 75 kms away from Sab away room.
Once this railway line was stretched, then entire the North-East would be benefitted and Tripura would be another 'Gate Way' of North- East, they said.
The forum members said this expansion would make transportation of goods from Chittagong port to this state and the entire NE region easy, saving time and transportation cost as well.
