Meghalaya CM Rymbai likely to step down on Mar 8
New Delhi, Mar 7: Meghalaya Chief Minister J D Rymbai is likely to step down tomorrow, Congress party sources said.
Congress sources said Mr Rymbai, Meghalaya Home Minister R G Lyngdoh and former state Chief Minister and chairman of the State Planning Board S C Marak had a meeting with party president Mrs Sonia Gandhi here late last evening.
At the meeting, he requested Mrs Gandhi to review some specific issues but she said that he should first step down as the Chief Minister before the process could be taken up.
According to Mr Shariff Laskar, a senior youth Congress leader from the North East, the Chief Minister has assured Mrs Gandhi that he will step down from his post after reaching Shillong tomorrow, sources said.
Mr Rymbai was in the national capital to plead his case before the party president as well as to finalise the state's plan outlay for the year 2007-08, sources added.
He came to power in June last year.
