Cong concerned over law and order in UP

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The Congress today described the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh as ''serious and deplorable'' and said no important person felt secure in the state.

The ground reality in Uttar Pradesh is that there is an atmosphere of terror, Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said replying to a question on the murder of a councillor in the state.

About the advertisement issued by the state government showing superstar Amitabh Bachchan as claiming that the state was far below other states in crimes, the spokesman said the state government's approach was wrong.

''The State Government remains in a dreamland,'' Mr Singhvi said, adding ''advertisements cannot alter the actual situation.'' The Spokesman recalled that the Congress had umpteen times expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. However, the matter comes under the jurisdiction of the state.
