11 lorries carrying illegal sand quarrying impounded

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Mar 7 (UNI) Police today seized and impounded 11 lorries for illegally carrying sand from quarries from Palar river at Chengalpattu near here and handed them over to the Revenue Department.

Talking to newspersons here District Deputy Superintendent of Police Senthil Kumar said a police team acting on instructions from District Superintendent A Amalraj impounded six lorries at Thimmavaram Palar, near Chengalpattu and five lorries at Villiampakkam.

Mr Kumar said police were constantly monitoring theft of sand from the quarries at Palar.
