Thousands attend Mahto's funeral procession

Jamshedpur, Mar 6 (UNI) Over 30,000 people participated in the funeral procession of slain Jamshedpur MP Sunil Mahto who will be cremated this evening.

The body was taken to his ancestral village at Chhota Gamharia in neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district and after performing rituals, the body was being brought back here.

The body would be taken to the JMM office at Kadma, slain JMM president Nirmal Mahto's samadhi at Uliyan and then to Chhota Gamharia for the last rites.

Mr Mahto would be cremated with full state honours with many dignitaries, including chief minister Madhu Koda being present during the cremation.

Mr Mahto's family members, inlcuding wife and daughter, were seen grieving. Thousands of people from the neighbourig village gathered to get a glimpse of the slain leader's body.

People were shouting slogans ''Sunil Mahto Amar Rahe, Sunil Mahto Zindabad''.

Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto was leading the procession while other leaders, includig Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, former BJP state minister Raghuvar Das were seen in the procession.
