Sonia assails Opposition for disrupting Parliament

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today came down heavily on the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party for disrupting the Budget session of Parliament, saying they seemed to be not interested in ''reasonable and dignified discussions''.

''Unfortunately, the BJP and its allies' only objective has been to disrupt Parliament,'' she alleged, while addressing the General Body meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party.

Pointing out that the Budget session was the most important element in the functioning of Parliament, Ms Gandhi said the kind of disturbance and disruption witnessed since the beginning of the ongoing session had only served to ''harm the legislative agenda of the nation''.

In this context, she said the Congress had always been ready for a debate whenever contentious issues had arisen.

''Time and again, the Party and the Government have steadfastly maintained this position. It continues to remain so,'' she asserted.

Ms Gandhi expressed the hope that the Opposition would cooperate and ensure smooth and productive Parliamentary proceedings.
