Official status demanded to Marathi along with Konkani
Panaji, Mar 6 (UNI) Gomantak Marathi Academy and Shiv Sena today demanded that Marathi language should be given official status on par with Konkani in Goa.
The activists, who earlier had taken out a procession to the Legislative Assembly, called on Chief Minister Pratap Singh Rane and submitted a memorandum to this effect.
The Chief Minister assured the 10-member delegation that he would discuss the issue with the party soon.
It might be recalled that the Congress Legislative Party, in its meeting, a few days ago had favoured official status to Marathi however, it had been opposed by a section of the Konkani activists.
The delegation was led by Academy president Gurudas Sawal and Sena chief Upendra Gaoncar.
