Convicts seek retrial
Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) A group of 68 convicts in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case today moved the TADA court here, seeking a retrial and review of their cases.
In their application, Zakir Hussain and 67 other convicts claimed that the members of the Memon family, who had allegedly masterminded the blasts, cine star Sanjay Dutt and other bomb planters were the prime accused involved in the case.
They said they were not deeply involved and they should be acquitted of the terror charge or at the most, convicted under the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) like Dutt and his associates.
The applicants contended that in view of their plea for retrial they should be released on bail unconditionally.
The 28-page application will come up for hearing on March 12. The same day, the court will also hear an intervention application pleading for dismissal of Dutt's application seeking relief under the Probation of Offender Act (PoA).
