Patiala, Mar 6 (UNI) The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has issued show-cause notice to Malwinder Singh, younger brother of former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, for anti-party activities during assemby elections.

PPCC's Disciplinary action committee chief Gopal Krishan Chatrath has issued notice to Malwinder Singh, seeking an explanation by March 20, for opposing the official Congress candidate in Samana.

In the letter which was distributed to media here, Mr Chatrath said, ''It has been brought to the notice by the party observers that you indulged in anti-party activities by openly working against the official nominee Brahm Mohindra from Samana assembly constituency''.

''Relevant newspaper clippings and other material showing your opposition to the candidature of Mr Brahm Mohindra have been provided,'' he added.

It also stated that if Mr Malwinder Singh failed to provide an explanation by March 20, it would be presumed that he had nothing to say in this regard and ex-parte proceedings would be initiated against him.

Mr Singh was reportedly seeking the Samana seat for himself and had criticised the high command decision for allotment of party ticket to Brahm Mohindra. He also said that he would not campaign for him, and even issued the statement that Mr Brahm Mohindra will lose the elections.

Mr Brahm Mohindra however, emerged victorious, defeating Surjit Singh Rakhra of Akali Dal by over 2500 votes.
