UK's Camilla in hospital for hysterectomy

LONDON, Mar 5 (Reuters) Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, wife of Britain's heir to the throne Prince Charles, has been admitted to hospital for a hysterectomy operation, Charles' office said today.

Charles went with her to hospital yesterday, a spokeswoman said.

Media reports say the former Camilla Parker Bowles, 59, will have the operation today at King Edward VII's Hospital in central London.

The spokeswoman would not confirm the reports.

The royal family said last month Camilla would have the operation in early March after returning from a visit to the West Asia with Charles.

Charles' office said the procedure, which involves the womb being removed, was a ''routine scheduled operation''. It is performed on one British woman in five above the age of 55.
