RAK Airways to fly India in May

Dubai, Mar 5 (UNI) RAK Airways, the UAE's fourth national carrier, will start flying in May under a new Indian CEO with destinations to India and Iran, a top official said.

The airline will begin operations with two Boeing 757-200 aircraft leased from the Spanish carrier Iberia and fly to Mumbai, Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Bangalore, and Tehran, Isfahan and Bandar Abbas in Iran in the first phase of operations.

Shaikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the RAK Department of Civil Aviation, said Mr Kishu Teckchandani, who was shortlisted for the post of Chairman of Airports Authority of India, has been officially named CEO replacing Jack Romero, who was unable to launch operations on time despite several postponements.

The launch date was initially declared to be late January, but postponed to February and then April.

The board of directors then decided to sack Romero last week and brought Mr Teckchandani to head the operations.
