PDP gen secy resigns on demilitarisation issue
Jammu, Mar 5 (UNI) People's Democratic Party (PDP) general secretary Romesh Motton today resigned from the party describing its much-hyped demand of demilitarisation of Jammu and Kashmir as ''unjust'' and ''unfortunate for the ongoing peace process.'' Announcing his resignation from the post of party general secretary and member political affairs committee, at a press conference here, Mr Motton said PDP's demand of withdrawal of troops from the state was an attempt to derail the ongoing peace process.
''Demilitarisation is unfortunate for the state as anti-national elements were active to derail the peace process between India and Pakistan,'' he said.
He also criticised PDP for deviating from its main agenda of spreading peace and prosperity in the state.
Asked if nomination to the J and K Legislative Council was the reason behind his resignation, Mr Motton said, ''no'', adding that he never eyed the position.
He further informed that PDP's zonal body had also decided to the resign from the party.
