Fire kills six in central Russian town

MOSCOW, Mar 5 (Reuters) At least six people died in a fire which destroyed an old house in the town of Ivanovo in central Russia today, the emergencies ministry said.

The fire ripped through a two-storey brick house with wooden partitions, a ministry spokesman said. Fire fighters arrived at the scene in a few minutes, but it took them more than two hours to put out the flames.

''Six bodies were recovered,'' the spokesman said. ''We cannot say if the death toll is final. Rescue teams are still working there, inspecting the debris.'' REUTERS AKJ SSC1212
