Sharmila comes back to Manipur

Imphal, Mar 04 (UNI) Irom Sharmila, who began her fast six years ago demanding repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA) returned here today from New Delhi.

Sharmila, who was in the national capital for four months to demand repeal of the act, staged a sit in at the Nupi Lal complex during the day and was immediately detained by police and taken to Jawaharlal Nehru hospital where she has been kept under vigil and tight security.

Sharmila had started her fast in November 2000 after ten persons were shot dead by troops at Malom, Imphal. She has been kept alive by nasal feeding by doctors.
