Danish princess gains commoner spouse, loses title

COPENHAGEN, Mar 3 (Reuters) Princess Alexandra Christina of Denmark married a commoner and lost her title today as she wed photographer Martin Jorgensen, 13 years her junior.

Countess Alexandra Christina of Frederiksborg, as she will be known, will have to pay income and property taxes estimated by Danish media to amount to millions of Danish crowns.

Hong Kong-born Alexandra, 42, married Prince Joachim in 1995, with whom she had two sons. The coupled were divorced in 2005.

She and the 29-year-old groom were married in Oester Egede Kirke (East Oakgroove Church), a 15th-century chalk-white church with a red brick roof south of the Danish capital.

As she left the church, television pictures showed Alexandra wearing a champagne-coloured wedding dress. She was accompanied by her husband and her sons, princes Nikolai and Felix.

A local news agency quoted her as saying it was nice to be married and she looked forward to having a peaceful time.
