Intense cold wave in HP

Shimla, Mar 3 (UNI) Piercing cold wave conditions are prevailing in Himachal Pradesh after heavy snowfall and widespread rains in the state during the last few days.

The minimum temperature at Shimla town rose by a few notches to stand at 1.8 degrees Celsius as against 1.5 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday.

The sky was mainly clear today and the met office said rain or snow was expected at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hours.

Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded a night temperature of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum at Keylong, the district headquater of Lahaul Spiti, stood at minus 6.1 degrees Celsius after receiving the winter season's heaviest snowfall during the last few days.

However, there was no report of rain and snow in the state during the last 24 hours, the met office said.

It added that the minimum temperatures at Sundernagar and Bhuntar stood at 6.2 and 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Una town and Solan town recorded night temperatures of 4.5 and 7.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
