Cauvery issue: Agitation continues in Karnataka
Mysore, Mar 3: Dharnas, road and rail blockades, hunger strike, motorbike rally and processions marked the protests by farmers and various organisations in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar in Karnataka against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, today.
In Mandya, dharnas were staged in various villages. The Minorities Association blocked the Mysore-Tuticorin train at Besaganahalli near Maddur for some time. The relay hunger strike by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Horatta Samithi at Mandya, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura and K R Pet continued. Pandavapura MLA Puttaraju took out a motorbike rally from Pandavapura to Mandya against the award.
The Mandya District Bar Association decided to boycott court proceedings on Monday to join the agitation and stage a dharna at Silver Jubilee park. They also extended free legal aid to the Cauvery agitators, facing many court cases.
In Mysore, the Dalitha Sangarsha Samithi took out a procession, with the women folk carrying empty pots, and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. They urged the authorities to withdraw all cases against the agitators. The City Photographers Association also joined the stir.
