Total lunar eclipse to take place tomorrow

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) A total lunar eclipse will occur in the early hours tomorrow from 0300 hrs to 0642 hrs IST.

The magnitude of the eclipse would be 1.237 (Moon's diameter - 1.0) and the duration of the eclipse 3h 42m, Meterological Centre Director A Ramanan told UNI here today.

The eclipse would be visible from the Arctic and Asia. The eastern part of Europe, including the British Isles, Africa, South America and the eastern parts of Central and North America will not be able to witness the eclipse, he said.

The beginning and the ending of the total phase of the lunar eclipse besides its partial phase would be visible from all parts of India.

The ending of the partial phase of the eclipse would be visible only from the north, north-west and western part of India, he pointed out.

In the remaining parts of the country, the moon would not be visible before the eclipse ends, he said.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow falls between the Moon and the Sun.
