Russia to participate in international conference on Iraq

Moscow, Mar 2 (UNI) Russia will participate in the international conference to be held in Bahghdad this month to discuss the current situation in Iraq.

Moscow had accepted the invitation to participate in the conference, Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesman Mikhail Kamynin in a statement said.

The conference is to be held at the initiative of the Iraqi government, as the situation in the country has deteriorated. It has invited the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, neighbouring Iraq and interested regional organisations to attend the conference.

''We have and will continue to support all ideas and proposals consistent with this approach,'' Mr Kamynin said.

Moscow hopes for a successful outcome at the conference and it will ''create the conditions for the next meeting of a broader international forum at foreign ministerial level'', he added.
