RJD MP Shahabuddin awarded 2-yr imprisonment

Siwan, Mar 2: Controversial RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin was todaysentenced to two-year imprisonment by a special court in connectionwith one of the criminal cases related to an attack on the local officeof the CPI(ML).

Pronouncing the quantum of punishment special judicial magistrateV V Gupta awarded imprisonment ranging from 1 to 2 years and alsoslapped a fine on him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The court awarded two years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000 to MdShahabuddin under section 147 of the IPC. The MP had also been punishedfor two years along with a fine of Rs 1000 under section 504, for onemonth and Rs 100 fine under section 341, for one year and Rs 1000 fineunder section 342 and for one year and Rs 1000 fine under section 448of IPC.

The court said that all the punishments would continue concurrently.

Earlier, the RJD MP was produced before the special court amidtight security this afternoon and after delivery of the quantum ofpunishment he filed a petition for a provisional bail to make an appealin the higher courts.

The court later granted provisional bail to the MP allowing him to move for an appeal.
