Policeman stabbed in head and neck

LONDON, Mar 2 (Reuters) A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed a police constable in the head and neck, Merseyside Police said today.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment and is recovering at home.

The 48-year-old policeman was attacked after going with other officers to a house in Huyton, Merseyside, shortly after midnight to investigate a report of criminal damage.

While they were at the house talking to the occupants the man returned and stabbed the constable.

Detectives will interview the attacker at a Merseyside police station later today.
