Itanagar: Lobsang Chudup adjudged Arunachal idol

Itanagar, Mar 2: Lobsang Chudup of Tawang was declared the Arunachal Idol in the 'Voice of Arunachal' pageant at a glitterintg function at Siddhartha Hall here last evening.

In tune with the Sony TV famed Indian Idol, as many as 1,980 contestants competed from 16 districts and as many as 11 contests were organised. The final round was conducted on February 19 last, ending the eight-month-long hunt for the Arunachal Idol.

Mr Chudup received a black Swift car and and Rs one lakh, which was presented by Health Minister C C Singpho.

Anung Welly of West Kameng district received a bag worth Rs 50,000 as the first runner up from Takam Sanjoy, advisor to the chief minister.

Jelly Kaye of West Siang, Sanwang Hosai of Tirap and Pudi Tada of Lower Subansiri were handed over Rs 20,000 each as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th runners up respectively by MLAs Atum Welly and Phusum Khimhum.

All of them were given mementos and certificates, including other top 10 contestants on the occasion.

The top five finalists were selected on the basis of marks awarded by the judges in all the elimination rounds since the voting system was stopped in the last phase.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singpho appreciated the organisers for their pioneering efforts to create a platform for exposing young talents and exhorted them to continue the venture in future too.

The top 10 finalists would be given chance to make Hindi and local albums(two each) and an Assamese album, proposed to be produced by the committee.
