Jyoti Basu asks Congress to take lesson from its debacle

Kolkata, Mar 2 (UNI) Observing that the defeat in Punjab and Uttarakhand elections was the result of political and organisational failure, veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu today asked the Congress to take a lesson from its debacle.

''It is the failure of the Congress politically and organisationally. It should learn lessons from the defeat,'' he told reporters after attending the party's state secretariat meeting.

Mr Basu's comments came a few days after the Congress lost control over the two states to BJP-Akali dal and BJP.

The CPI(M), extending outside support to the UPA government at the centre had made it clear in the past that the party would oppose the growth of the Sangh Parivar under the leadership of the BJP.
