Governor's speech lacks policy matter: Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 2: Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today alleged that Governor R L Bhatia's address to the Kerala Assembly on the opening day of the Budget Session did not contain any policy matters and lacked farsightedness.
Addressing newspersons here, he said Mr Bhatia's address was nothing more than discharging his Constitutional duties. There were no fresh proposals. Moreover, it resembled the same speech that he had made in the previous session.
He alleged that though the Governor's speech was ''the mirror of one year-programmes and policies of the ruling government'', the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had not taken it seriously.
Pointing out that the LDF had not implemented many of the proposals mentioned in the last speech made by the Governor, he alleged that this showed the failure of the ruling government.
On the proposal to open more toddy shops in the state, he charged that since tapping of toddy was not sufficient to cater the needs of the existing toddy shops in the state, opening more shops would lead to the flow of illicit arrack in the market.
