Former Congress MLA convicted

Sagar(MP), Mar 2 (UNI) A local court has sentenced one year imprisonment to former Congress MLA Santosh Sahu and about two dozen people of both sides involved in a clash among the supporters of liquor contractors here 11 years ago.

Additional Sessions Judge Satyendra Kumar Singh yesterday acquitted Santosh Sahu's son Satish, but convicted his brother Kamlesh Sahu. Two accused died during the trial period. Jairam Sahu and six others of the rival group were also sentenced to one year imprisonment and fine.

According to prosecution, supporters of Santosh Sahu and Jairam Sahu clashed and opened fire in the air at the market here on February 19, 1996. Police registered case against both groups.
