DU to crackdown on anti-social elements on Holi
New Delhi, Mar 2: With Holi just a few days away, the DelhiUniversity has put in place a slew of security measures to crack downon anti-social elements on the campus and its affiliated colleges.
The University in coordination with law enforcing agencies andvoluntary organisations has initiated ''internal and external'' stepsto check any untoward incident, particularly harassment of women.Teaching in the university has been suspended.
''Some people take advantage of Holi and indulge in hooliganism...
Delhi University is determined to take action to curb disturbances,'' Registrar A K Dubey said.
He said anyone who violates discipline and causes harassment wouldbe subject to strict disciplinary action under the provisions of theUniversity Ordinances XV-B and XV-C.
Police have been deployed at various strategic points aroundcolleges and mobile patrol squads have also been posted to prevent anymishap.
Lady Officers have been placed on special duty around women's colleges.
''Law Enforcing agencies will maintain a constant vigil and student volunteers will also assist the authorities,'' he added.
A Joint Control Room has been set up by Police, DTC and Universityofficials in the North as well as the South Campuses to provideimmediate assistance to students.
The University has requested the Transport authorities to checkharassment of girl students in buses and also asked DTC crews to takebuses to the nearest police station if any incident occurs on board.
Urging students to cooperate in maintaining discipline, Mr Dubeysaid entry into colleges will only be through identity cards andplaying holi during study hours has been banned in all colleges.
Mr Dubey said Principals and Hostel incharges have been asked not to allow outsiders in their premises.
''Committees of teachers, students and non-teaching staff must beformed to prevent entry of any outsider and Head of Departments andprovosts must activate Disciplinary Committees to take care of anyincident,'' he added.
