BJP will reject 'Indo-US Nuclear agreement': Dattatreya
Hyderabad, Mar 2 (UNI) Former Union minister and BJP Andhra Pradesh President Bandaru Dattatreya today said his party would reject the Indo-US nuclear agreement, which was approved in Parliament, if it came to power at the Centre.
Speaking at a national seminar on 'Indo-US Nuclear Agreement,' organised by the department of History in Hyderabad Central University here, Mr Dattatreya said ''we would not succumb to America's power. The BJP would scrap the agreement with the support of its NDA partners immediately after it comes to power.'' Alleging that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statements in Parliament, during the debate on the agreement, would not serve the interests of the country in developing the nuclear technology for defence purpose, he said the UPA had ''mortgaged our security'' to the US.
The BJP leader pointed out that the Centre had ignored the scientists while preparing the nuclear agreement draft and it was being prepared by the bureaucrats, who were not aware of the requirements of nuclear energy in the country.
