SC orders CBI probe into UP CM, family's assets

New Delhi, Mar 1: The Supreme Court today directed the CBI toconduct a preliminary investigation into the alleged disproportionateassets of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and hisfamily members.

Issuing the directions on a Public Interest Litigation filed byone Biswanath Chaturvedi, a Bench comprising Justices AR Lakshamananand Altamas Kabir, observed ''It would subserve the public interest,morality and the chief minister's interest as well to have such aprobe.''
