New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The Government has agreed for a short duration discussion in Parliament after March 7 about the arrest of Italian fugitive Ottavio Quattrocchi by the Argentinian authorities.

This has been agreed to at a meeting between External Affairs Minister Pranab Kumar Mukherjee with NDA leaders, including Leaders of Opposition L K Advani and Jaswant Singh, BJP Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj told newspersons.

She said a full fledged discussion on the Quattrocchi issue had been Opposition's demand so that the nation would know the full facts about the arrest and subsequent release of the main recipient of Bofors kickbacks. People want to know why information about his arrest was hidden from them for over a fortnight, she added.

The meeting also resolved the four-day old stalemate over the issue in both Houses of Parliament with the Prime Minister agreeing to have the debate on the issue.

The Opposition which was threatening to raise a privilege motion against Dr Singh for choosing to speak to the media and not in the Parliament, however, did not insist on its stand after the reconciliatory stance of the government.

The two leaders had made their statements and the Prime Minister had responded thereby allowing the functioning of the House normally. The Opposition had disrupted the presentation of the Railway Budget demanding a discussion but had spared the General Budget.
